The Global Launch Conference of the „Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the SDGs“ UNESCO framework takes place on 2. - 4. June in Berlin, Germany.
After five years of the UNESCO Global Action Programme on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) the UNESCO is kicking off its new framework: ‘Education for Sustainable Development: Towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals’ – in short ESD for 2030. In view of global developments, such as climate change, sustainable development of the world community is more urgent than ever. This requires social change, for which education for sustainable development is essential. The UNESCO will continue to promote the anchoring of ESD in global educational landscapes in the future and emphasize on the importance of ESD for achieving the Agenda 2030.
The ten-year programme will be launched in Germany: From 2 to 4 June 2020, the conference organized by UNESCO and the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) will take place in Berlin. Some 800 high-ranking representatives from politics, science, civil society and business from all UNESCO member states are expected to attend the three-day event. At the Global Launch Conference, the international experts will discuss the strategic design of the new UNESCO framework "ESD for 2030" and decide on measures for its implementation.
